Welcome to the third quarter of the school year! Your child will receive their report cards on Friday.  Please sign the envelope and return the empty envelope as soon as possible. This would be a good time to check with your child to see if more school supplies are needed.

†  AR goals for the third quarter have been set; your child’s goal is ___________.  Remember this is a part of each child’s reading grade and they have until the end of the quarter, March 22, to reach that goal.

†  Spelling for this week, we will work with the words from Unit 8 on the spelling list: old, told, cold, hold, sold, most, post, child, wild, kind, find, and mind. This test is Friday.

For those of you that would like to get a jump on Valentine Cards, here are the names of the students in our class:  Remington, Kara, Tobin, Faith, Brooklyn, Sophie, Jack, Austin, Avery, Blake, Aiden, Adam, Isabella, Dean, Audrey, and Kolton. Please keep the cards home until Feb. 14 when we will have our party.

Each class is being asked to create a basket for our PTL fundraiser Luck & Laughter event in March.  This basket will be part of the silent auction that evening.  We will be creating a “Made in Michigan” basket. Please send in items that were “Made in Michigan” …things like Faygo pop, Better-made potato chips, Leelanau wine, Traverse City cherry products, McClure pickles, etc.  These are just a few things, I’m sure you will be able to find MANY others as well. These items should be collected by the end of February.  Thanks for your help!

 SOME INFORMATIONAL ITEMS

* Chapel is Wednesday. Please keep our speaker in prayer as she travels  and prepares for the service.

* In math, we are starting to add two-digit numbers, with and without regrouping.  Please go over the addition facts to 20 with your child so this process becomes more automatic.

* Book orders would be due on or before Jan. 26.

* SAVE THE DATE: We will be taking a field trip on April 24 to see a play.

* Book-It: January is coming quickly to an end. Let’s keep reading and reporting on all the books that are keeping us warm this month! Book reports will be accepted until Feb. 1 for January Book-its.   For some of the children, reports have been just copying whole sentences from the book. This can’t happen because those words are not the words of your child. Many of the reports have also been one sentence in length and that doesn’t tell about the content of the story. Remember that these reports should be at LEAST 2-3 complete sentences that tell about the story. Please review the reports before they’re signed.

* Bring in/scan those Boxtops for Education

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  We start our year celebrating Epiphany. This is when the wise men came to visit Jesus and presented Him with gifts.  Let each of us, truly remember to present Jesus with the gift of ourselves, as well as staying CONNECTED to Him with our time and talents throughout the coming year❣️

I want to say thank you for all your thoughtfulness and generosity at CHRISTmas! I am truly blessed!

Since many people are making New Year’s resolutions, I have a few that I hope you make with your child.  One is to be in God’s Word daily.  This is important for your child(ren) and you!  Next, I urge you to encourage your child to read, do a book report and then take an Accelerated Reader test at school. This will help with your child’s fluency, reading confidence and writing skills.

Spelling for this week, we will be reviewing the words we’ve been working with throughout the school year.  We will start with a regular spelling unit again next week.
